I received Shift For Brains （The Legend of Nyx #4） by Theophilus Monroe through StoryOrigin and definitely enjoyed and recommend。 I recommend the whole series so far。 Shift for Brains finds Nyx fighting zombies， trying to save the city and also stop them from spreading out。 I am not usually big on zombie stories but this was well done and I definitely recommend。 This book is available on Amazon

Once I receieved this book I was able to read it from the very beginning to the very end and I really liked this book very much。 I thought the story line was well done and it made the most sense to me in my opinion。 I thought the character built up was such a great fit to the whole story in my opinon。 I receied this book for free thru an Advanced Review Copy， ARC， with an honest review freely given。

Another fabulous adventure for Nyx and her friends！ Book 4 in this series was fantastic and in this one Nyx has a huge problem to solve， one she cannot simply do with just Devin and Malinda！ Zombies are running a rampage through Kansas City， but with Nyx only being able to take out a couple at a time， something else， something much bigger is needed and help comes in the most unexpected of ways！ It was great to see how everyone banded together to help Kansas City's zombie crisis。 I didn't quite e Another fabulous adventure for Nyx and her friends！ Book 4 in this series was fantastic and in this one Nyx has a huge problem to solve， one she cannot simply do with just Devin and Malinda！ Zombies are running a rampage through Kansas City， but with Nyx only being able to take out a couple at a time， something else， something much bigger is needed and help comes in the most unexpected of ways！ It was great to see how everyone banded together to help Kansas City's zombie crisis。 I didn't quite expect it to happen in the scale it did， but it was a great plan。 Unfortunately Mina， the nasty old witch from the Order of the Morning Dawn rears her ugly head too， taking advantage of the whole zombie situation。 I loved how she was dealt with！ I love these characters - Nyx is definitely a fave of mine and although we didn't get to see as much of Brucie this time， he's still a fab side character too！ I loved how the characters from other series from Theo's made appearances in this one too。 I can't wait to read more about Nyx and what the Neck might bring in the next book！ I received a copy of this book from the author， but this review is all my own！ 。。。more

This is book four of The Legend of Nyx series and sees Kansas City overrun with zombies， created as a side effect from Nicky destroy the Nazarene’s Grimoire。 Their numbers are too great for Nicky alone to handle and even though her young ward Malinda has managed to create a spell to destroy the younger zombies， it doesn’t stop any who have been around a bit longer， and Devin’s warlock fire would take too long to take down a zombie， leaving it still able to bite someone。 The whole city has been p This is book four of The Legend of Nyx series and sees Kansas City overrun with zombies， created as a side effect from Nicky destroy the Nazarene’s Grimoire。 Their numbers are too great for Nicky alone to handle and even though her young ward Malinda has managed to create a spell to destroy the younger zombies， it doesn’t stop any who have been around a bit longer， and Devin’s warlock fire would take too long to take down a zombie， leaving it still able to bite someone。 The whole city has been placed in quarantine， with the army fiercely defending any crossing points and not allowing people to pass until completely checked for infection。 Nicky， Malinda and Devi are stuck in her club， a former funeral home， and desperately need to find some help to take out the zombies， before they completely overrun al who remain locked up in the city。 She reaches out to Alice for help to raise an army of vampires to take out the zombies， but they need to work out a method for getting out of the city and then bringing in an army unnoticed by the military。 Not as easy as it sounds。 Malinda contacts her fellow witch Hilary and together the pair work out some potions and spells to help in the battle。 If they can’t stop this zombie apocalypse， then it could be the end of the world as they know it！With Nicky being an Elemental， she at least is safe from the zombies， but Malinda and Devin certainly aren’t。 Once she brings more vampires to the city， she will need to keep both of them close at hand， in case any of the younglings decide to have a snack on her people。 They all need to use their connections to get out of the city initially， with Alice keeping quiet about what her actual plan is for recruiting a large army of vampires to their side， especially with Nyx being known as a deadly vampire killer in her own right。 Mercy is brought into the fold， having her own issues with the vampires in Europe who prefer to stick with the old ways and not adhere to her sire Niccolo the Damned’s final wish， for Mercy to take his place in charge of the whole Vampire Council， leaving her back in the Americas and having to work without using her compulsion。 Something that she grew to hate using more than ever， because of the effect it had on herself。 Mercy uses her seer vampire Sarah to help broadcast a call to arms for vampires far and wide， to come and help in Kansas City， to save human lives or see their ability to feed and prosper dwindle。 They visit Merlin as a boy and his parents and are invited to touch the Tree of Life， giving each some extra powers to discover in their moment of need。 Part of the potion Malinda and Hilary must concoct， needs the essence of the Neck， placing someone in danger of being hunted by the Neck they call， until they are either consumed or the Neck become human as Nicky did。 That seems unlikely， as Nicky had a very separate route to her current life and it took her years to accept she could not go back to what she used to be， without eating the very man she has come to love， Devin！ She has had to make a new enemy， whilst hoping to also stop another older foe， Mina and the Order of the Morning Dawn。 Mina has her own plans for stopping the zombie apocalypse and it involve killing vampires as well， since she views them all as abominations。 She always seems to have a plan which is steps ahead of Nicky and co， always managing to trap them into making an attack or approach that will place them in a weaker position and liable to be trapped by Mina’s use of celestial powers。 Nicky has some revelations about her true origins and her parents in one visit with the old version of Merlin and is also given a strange instrument for her upcoming battle。 Not exactly what you might expect！ Another great storyline in this series and building up with problems to come for Nicky from the Neck in the next！ I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above。 。。。more

Nicky is back but this time facing zombies。 This story was a hoot to read。 Nicky and the gang must get back together and deal with the zombies。 But of course things are not cut and dried and things do not go smoothly。 But that made the story so much fun to read。

“Shift for Brains” is the fourth instalment into “The Legend of Nyx”， which follows Nyx， a water elemental and human predator， who used to lure its intended victims using shapeshifting abilities to attract and consume them。 But even nature most consummated killer can make mistakes and chose the wrong target， one who stole her powers and letting trapped into the male body used to allure her。 Nyx has been forced to live and interact with humans， as a human trapped in the wrong body， as Nyx is fema “Shift for Brains” is the fourth instalment into “The Legend of Nyx”， which follows Nyx， a water elemental and human predator， who used to lure its intended victims using shapeshifting abilities to attract and consume them。 But even nature most consummated killer can make mistakes and chose the wrong target， one who stole her powers and letting trapped into the male body used to allure her。 Nyx has been forced to live and interact with humans， as a human trapped in the wrong body， as Nyx is female at core。 Nyx journey forces her to interact， even sympathize with her former victims， while experiencing and dodging all kind of prejudices and discrimination in the process。 Nyx quest to find the vampire who took her abilities away and forced her to bestow her power back is ongoing and have bring her to the most inconceivable places （Vilokan Asylum， anyone？） and in contact to unthinkable evil， but this adventure tops them all。 Zombies， freaking zombies， as in brain-eating half-rotten corpses， are on the prowl， and Nicky/Nyx gets caught right in the middle of it， as usual。 But let us be real， it’s not bad luck or oversight on Nicky’s part， it just her own path and destiny that puts her in the most strange and hopeless situations， because Nicky is a real hero; the kind of hero that does things just because they must be done， and need no other reason， even when she could choice differently。 Hunting vampires in 12-inch pumps is already Nicky’s specialty， but just wait until you see her go after the zombies 😊。 While zombies are erratic ， and – contrary to vampires – unpredictable and impossible to reason with， Nicky has an advantage， being an elemental zombies are unable to smell her， making her the perfect hunter， but even so zombies come on hordes… Nicky has already proven herself to be Buffy on steroids， but this adventure is absolutely rotten… pun very much intended 😉 My only question is， why haven’t this Queen made it yet to Drag Race？ Because seriously that would be E·P·I·C。When it comes to Monroe， I have learnt to expect the unexpected， regardless with every new book I cannot help to wonder at his ingenuity and the permanent ‘creative fugue’ that seems to permeate every and each one of his characters， and I must add his wonderful and completely disregard of boundaries， OTGD anybody？ And even so， Nyx takes the whole the whole verse to a brand-new level， she is the embodiment of queerness， through and through， not a token queer to please the masses， but a fully fleshed character that brings us into a journey to find/regain her true identity while letting us take part in an amazing urban fantasy adventure。 Monroe uses his highly original style to criticize societal norms without ever for a nanosecond forget his very first intention: to entertain the reader to the fullest。 “The Legend of Nyx” is the latest addiction to the “Gates of Eden”， an fully original verse that loosely borrows Arthurian tropes and transfer them organically into a modern urban fantasy that spans centuries， crossing realms and blurs the boundaries between reality and legend and transforms them into a veritable smørrebrød of action， unexpected twists， wonderful characters and mind-blowing descriptions， garnished with a good dose of magic some sprinkles of mythical lore and some paranormal romance on the side， and served with very well-crafted， with an accurate world building， interesting characters， captivating writing style and carefully editing。 Monroe’s ‘Garten of Eden’ verse is populated by a vast number of extraordinary characters， which are （unless very subjectively） almost impossible to rank， but even among the best of the best， Nyx is even more remarkable than the rest 😉 。。。more

My goodness， the very first sentence has Nyx diving straight in！ And in her 12 inch Jimmy Choo's to boot！ Although I must admit I went " oh yuk！" with the novel way Nyx/Nicky used her shoes， I had to laugh， I mean， all I could think was would Jimmy Choo approve of his designer shoes being defiled？ I love Nyx/Nicky especially her fashion sense and her flair for the dramatic。 And Brucie， what a character， in the sense that his antics make me laugh。 An enemy turned ally， Alice joins up with Nyx/Nic My goodness， the very first sentence has Nyx diving straight in！ And in her 12 inch Jimmy Choo's to boot！ Although I must admit I went " oh yuk！" with the novel way Nyx/Nicky used her shoes， I had to laugh， I mean， all I could think was would Jimmy Choo approve of his designer shoes being defiled？ I love Nyx/Nicky especially her fashion sense and her flair for the dramatic。 And Brucie， what a character， in the sense that his antics make me laugh。 An enemy turned ally， Alice joins up with Nyx/Nicky， Devin and Malinda to put a stop to the zombie invasion。 So cool to have Alice， Mercy and Hailey feature again。 And I'll never tire of Merlin popping up。 That's the beauty of Theo's books， there is usually always an intermingling of characters from previous books， which just add to the fun！ Even though the plot is all about fighting the zombie scourge， I love the redemption offered throughout the book。 No one is above redemption， humanity is within all， even blood sucking vampires。 From being a dedicated Vampire Slayer， Nicky joins forces with the vampires to eradicate a greater threat。 I love the fantasy world Theo so skilfully illustrates， the ridiculously cool characters he manages to come up with， every one totally delectable！ Theo makes it difficult to have a favourite character when each one is so unique and special。 Nyx/Nicky's journey is such fun to follow and I'm already looking forward to the next book！ 。。。more
